Name: Alden

Age: 21

Ocupation: Student

Home: Nor Cal (summer) So Cal (school year)

Sports: Running, surfing, mountain biking, backpacking

Early days: I was born in Paradise California, and I have lived all my life here. I was born to two wonderful parents, Mark and Tonya. I have always loved math and backpacking. Kinda a wierd combo, but I guess thats the way it is. I went backpacking the first time when I was five years old.

Education: I've been homeschooled. I've been to private school. I've been to a charter school. I went to public high school. I attended community college. Currently I am attending Thomas Aquinas College, working on a degree in liberal arts. I will be graduating in May 2007 (a day before I start out for my PCT trek). I plan on going on after my hike and getting a PhD in Mathematics. I'm hoping to become a college professor some day. I love teaching and I love Math, so I figured this would be a good way to combine the two into a single job.

Hobbies: I love playing around on the computer. I've always enjoyed backpacking. Recently I've taken up surfing (in spring of 2005) and ride a 9'6" board. I ride my mountan bike sometimes. I got my motorcyle license last summer, and have enjoyed putting around the hills on my dad's honda 250 that I've been borrowing. I like working on my Celica that my awesome cool grammy bought for me 5 years ago. I am an Eagle Scout, and hope to be involved in Boy Scouts at some point in life as a leader.

Beliefs: I'm a Christian. I try to love God with my whole heart, and I try to love other people. I do my best to let my love of others be the guiding light in my decision making in life. I've very bad at it, but I'm working, and hoping and praying that with God's help over time I'll become better at living like I should. I believe in the Bible as the word of God. I believe in a Biblical responsibility to care for the earth. I'm a non-denominational Christian, but am not opposed to denominations as such— only opposed to the division they cause in the body of Christ. I believe that Jesus Christ is the only way to eternal life (however, I don't claim to be able to search his ways and his mercy).

My gf: My girlfriend Stephanie is the coolest girl ever! We love backpacking together, and hope to be able to hike together more in the future. I'm still trying to convince her to do the PCT with me sometime, but we'll see if that ends up working out. She and I have been dating for two and a half years, and I've loved every minute of it. I love her because she loves God, she enjoys the outdoors, she's a bit of a tom boy, she is nice, she loves animals, she is nice to people, she's smart, she's funny, she doesn't care about what people think of her. And as a bonus to all of that: she's totally beautiful (and she looks hot in a swimsuit too!).

Everything else: Hmm. So much I could say. Could go off on some of the backpacking trips I've been on. Could talk about where I live. Could talk about whatever. But I'm tired of writing about me. I really get annoyed with writing about myself. Makes me fell kinda weird. I don't know. Anyways. If you have any other questions, feel free to drop me an email!
